There is no denying it moving can be very exciting. A new home, new life, new beginnings, even new rooms to decorate are all very exhilarating but before you can get to that bit you do have to navigate through some of the more murky waters of buying and selling real estate. Unfortunately, this part can involve a degree of stress and uncertainty and while no one can remove that stress in its entirety there are steps you can take to help minimize the stress levels felt throughout the process.
Choose your team wisely
When it comes to selling your house and buying a subsequent one you will need to call upon a number of professional services to help you. This can include but is not limited to, realtors, legal representatives, mortgage brokers, and potentially financial advisors. When you are looking to enlist the help of services it is always recommended you carry out your due diligence. Carry out some online and in-person research, visit the site they may own or work from, ask for recommendations, experiences, read reviews and don’t forget to give them a call. You can often get a feel for a service provider and how they operate just by taking some time to speak with them about what they can and cannot do for you. Sometimes the personal relationship you can develop with your realtor or mortgage broker can make all the difference to ease in which your transaction takes place.
Give yourself enough time
Time constraints can be one of the biggest stressors. There will be deadlines beyond your control but there are some elements of moving that you can make easier on yourself by giving yourself plenty of time to do it. Make sure you allow sufficient time to get everything done, this includes digging out all of the paperwork you might need, attending relevant appointments and meetings, and of course packing. Packing can be incredibly time-consuming and doing it while being rushed can lead to breakages, missing items and a chaotic and stressful environment. Be sure you have allowed yourself sufficient time to handle each aspect of the move process.
Stay Organized
If you want to keep stress levels as low as possible then staying organized is one of the best ways to do this and this applies to all aspects of the move. Keep your paperwork organized and safely stored, pack your boxes in an organized and logical manner (and don’t forget to label them), and keep ongoing checklists of all of the things that you need to do to make sure nothing is overlooked.
Ask for help
Don’t be afraid to ask for help and support when you need it. When things start to become overwhelming or stressful call on friends and family members to ask for help. It might be that they can help you with the packing or unpacking or simply be a person you can offload to and moan about the stresses of the day. Just remember the previous point, if you think you are going to call upon friends and family for help with packing try to be organized and give them some advanced notice.
