10 Simple Ways to Get Organized this Fall

Whether it be getting the kids ready for back to school, or just bringing in the new season – Fall is the perfect time to 'clean up' and get things organized around the house! The cooler weather and festive holidays will be here before you know it; wouldn't it feel great to be organized before heading into the new season?…
Fall Organization
1.) Clean out your vehicle Summer is theee worst time for junk piling up in our vehicles. Chip bags, soda cans, empty water bottles, stray napkins..Well, you get the idea. Summer is such a busy time of year (especially for parents and kids) that cleaning your vehicle out on a regular basis is, I'm sure, the last thing on your mind. Fall is the perfect time to get this done. Soon you will be trekking in snow, slush…and needing to find that "lost" mitten.Exciting times!!

2.) Create your Winter Emergency Car Kit There have been so many accidents in our area lately, safety has become more and more of a concern and definitely something that has been on my mind. This year I want to make sure we are prepared for {any} road emergency well in advanced. Post coming soon!

3.) Take heavier coats/sweaters to the dry cleaners Fall is a great time to get a head-start on those coats and sweaters that will be needed for the cooler months. Yes, I know – It may still be *hot* out, but if you live in one of those climates where nature doesn't seem to know what it is doing from one minute to the next, you'll be thankful to have this stuff on hand! It's also a great time to start washing and freshening up those mittens, scarves, and duvets.

4.) Prepare your menus early Create your menu boards on Pinterest for anything you want to make, or may want to make for any holiday get-togethers. Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Keep these menu folders separate from your regular recipe folders, so they are easily accessible.  And of course, Fall is the perfect time for comfort food so having easily accessible menus with recipes you may want to try is perfect. "Weekend Fall Meals"…"Busy Weeknight Fall Meals". Now you can easily glance at your recipe and pick up whatever ingredients you may need ahead of time.

5.) Shop early for cute dishes and decor Whether it be cute decor and essentials for Halloween or Thanksgiving – Now is the time to stock up! I can't tell you how many times I have noticed something I *love* thinking I'll go back and grab it closer to the day, only to find out it's gone. That's because people have prepared early and they're on top of their game.

6.) Update your address book Fall is the perfect time to update your address book for anyone you may be sending out holiday cards to. It cuts down on scurrying at the last moment looking for addresses and makes for easy organization when you may just have to add on an extra name or two.

7.) Organize Your Photos Oh gosh. This is a task that I'm sure everyone dreads. However, Summer is over and it's time to file away those 1500 pics on your phone. Now of course, if you love having all your pics on your phone…No need for this tip! If you're like me and the mere thought of going through a million seems tedious and more like an all weekend event, read on. I find an easy way to do this, is to create my folders on my computer first: "Niagara Falls 2015", "Long Weekend 2015" etc. Then, I take a few minutes out to transfer my photos from my phone. Now I'm super organized and my phone has a fresh slate for the upcoming season! Creating your own Holiday cards this year? Make a folder for these specific photos too "Christmas Card Possibilities 2015" – Easy access now for when the time comes that you're going to create your cards. No need to search through a million photos on your phone (or on your computer).

8.) Create a Gift List This is something so easy that could be done throughout the year – But if you like to procrastinate, now's the time to get your 'head-start'. I take notes all through the year of items my husband (or someone) has mentioned and just tuck it away for when gift-giving time comes. Don't forget, places like ebay and amazon have amazing sales all the time! You may be able to grab something perfect for a fraction of the price you'll pay during the busy holiday season. Don't forget before making any {online} purchases, to sign into your ebates account! Cash back just for doing what you already intended…shopping! You can find the links to Ebates in my right sidebar. Did I mention it's even free to sign up? Mmm hmm..Get over there and start earning your free cash back! Yeah honey, it's that easy {I promise}!

9.) Clean out the Pantry Summer is all but a memory and now the holiday baking is soon to begin! I don't know about you guys, but my cupboards {and fridge} seem to get stuffed to the brim during Summer. The heat has gotten to many items (cereal, crackers etc) and it's time to dispose of anything that's become inedible, or perhaps expired. Getting your pantry, cupboards and fridge cleaned out before a huge grocery shop of holiday items or re-stock of canned goods etc, will take an enormous amount of 'stress' and time off this chore. I love coming home to clean cupboards :))

10.) Organize Your Linen Closet Now this one, yes…It can be a pain in the arse :)) But stick with me. Summer is such a busy time, that let's be serious – Between vacations, weekends away and running to children's summer activities, even the *tidiest* of person may have a bit of trouble keeping up. Ahem..myself (and I don't even have children haha). This may not be true for all households, but in ours, once the cooler weather comes everything changes. I need 'fluffier' towels, room to store heavier blankets, even the scents of my soaps and lotions change. Having room to store my cooler weather items is a must. Now I am quite embarrassed by this, but I do have a post on Organizing Your Linen Closet.

And there you have it! 10 simple ways to bring a little more organization into your house (and life) this Fall!

Have a great season!
